Is This The End for “Generations: The Legacy”?

Uncertainty has arisen regarding the future of beloved SABC1 soapie, “Generations: The Legacy.”

Speaking to a local news publication on Thursday, 3 April, an anonymous source claimed that the show’s cast and crew members were told to remain at home “until further notice” during one of their annual production breaks.

“Our production breaks usually coincide with school holidays. So, this year, we went on break with the hope of returning to work on [Monday, 7 April],” the source explained. “However, we received letters informing us to stay at home until further notice.

“They said they are still trying to get a new contract with [the] SABC. We are scared because we don’t know how long that will take or what the future holds for us. We don’t know if we still have jobs or not.”

According to the letter, salaries will not be paid out “until we resume production.”

Despite “assurances by the SABC that the contract will definitely be issued”, many are worried that this current situation could spell the end for “Generations: The Legacy”, which has been a mainstay of SABC1 since 1994.

The South African Broadcasting Corporation has yet to respond to queries regarding the programme’s future.
